7 Ways to Make Sundays Sacred Again

Many participants have a difficult time tapping into their  Essence and Spirituality – one of the five life areas I teach in The Desire Map workshops. If they haven’t grown up with a religious background or ever attended a church, sometimes they are at a complete loss.

Making Sundays sacred again can be the first step to exploring your own inner truth and testing if spirituality is something you resonate with and embrace.

Before we get into the ‘how’ to make Sundays sacred again, I think it’s important that we look at the ‘why first’.

Sacred is a feeling.

This is really what we are seeking here. The feeling of sacredness is an awe-inspiring emotion that allows us to feel more divinely connected and dedicated to a deeper purpose, a feeling of being in-flow with the Universe with some of the highest vibes going, like love and compassion.

Why Sunday?

Well, Sunday marks the end of a week, an opportunity to start fresh with a new perspective. And it was my favorite day of the week as a child. Spending time with my family, watching feel good movies that sometimes made me cry, and sharing from-scratch dinners were when I felt the most loved.

Sunday is still is my favorite day as an adult.  A day I choose to dedicate myself to one of the highest vibes, to feel sacred.

The reality is we lead busy lives. New habits require baby steps and one day a week is a good start. Feel free to choose any day that works for you!

Here are my top 7 recommendations to make Sundays sacred again.

1. Go to Church. (You’re probably in shock – I know!). For non-religious people, hear me out. When I was in London, England this year my best friend and I went to a service at St. Paul’s Cathedral. This was the first time I stepped foot in a church for over two decades other than for a wedding. Every single thing about it was sacred and a divine connection to The Universe. The architecture, the choir, the stained glass mandalas. Well…everything except for that moment I accidentally swore. Don’t worry, I asked for forgiveness and everything is cool again with sweet baby J.

The church can also provide you with a sense of community, support, and commitment. I have always admired the devotion and fierce faith of Church-goers. You never know – it could work for you?

2. Spend time in nature. A walk. Picnic. Chillin’ by the river. Do anything you can to get outside. This is a daily ritual for me – I am blessed to live in a mountainous rain forest where it doesn’t get too cold. The more contact with nature you have – bare feet, swimming, touching a tree – the more sacred the experience.

3. Meditate. It doesn’t have to be crossed-legged chanting for hours. Some deep breathing can do wonders to your mind, body, and soul. I love drawing mandalas as a form of meditation – a sacred art. If all of this is new to you. Google is your best friend. There are a ton of free resources out there.

4. Write. Take some time to reflect on your week and write down your thoughts. If you prefer a guided reflection, I recommend the Desire Map Journal.  Similar to the planner, it has amazing prompts for your heart and soul to dig deep and go within.

On occasion, I write letters to loved one’s passed. It keeps me connected to their spirit and the memories that we shared.

4.1 Take it a step further and say your thoughts out loud. I’ve been caught – what looks like – talking to myself in the woods in one of my most sacred places, and I am pretty sure I looked like a crazy lady flapping my yap hugging a tree in bare feet.

Good thing I am over giving a shit what other people think!  

5. Read a spiritual book. My top fav right now is definitely The Desire Map by best-selling author Danielle Laporte. Love it so much I became a Licensed Facilitator!

Will always, always highly recommend the Conversations with God series by Neale Donald Walsch. The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield is also at the top of my list as an easy read with lessons woven into an adventurous story. I could go on and on, but instead, I will finish with two that are on my nightstand at the moment and I am loving: Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert and The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein.   

6. Clean your house. Not too sure about the phrase ‘cleanliness is Godliness,’ however, I do believe that cleaning your house increases the vibes of your home. De-cluttering, organizing and sanitizing with essential oil cleaners just down right feels good. Totally not your thing? Hire a cleaner and instead follow steps 1-5, or just skip to step 7.

7. Spend time with the people you love. Put the phones away. Do something that lights you up – make a meal together, watch a movie, cuddle. Whatever you choose, be present and savor the miracle of the moment, they are precious. And if you’re pressed for time – hit up 1-6 together for an extra bonus of sacredness!
